Daish is the Arabic acronym of ISIS, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria - Al-Dawlah Al-Islamiyah fi Al-Iraq wa Al-Sham. It is also known as ISIL: Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant - Levant is land between Eastern Mediterranean sea and Egypt. IS militants have exhibited extreme barbaric behavior.
The cancer of fundamentalism
Fundamentalism of any degree is akin to cancer in civilized world. Onus lies on developed countries to nip the evil in the bud. Is it already too late? Who is financing ISIL militants? Why millions in Africa, Middle East and SE Asia have approved and accepted ISIL as a savior? Why are there so many Muslim followers of ISIL? Why the volunteers from US, UK, France and Belgium are joining ISIL? What is the remedy?
Military action
1. Is military action a complete solution of the problem? It is not. US tracked and chased Osama-bin-Laden, and terminated him. US has "a long reach and it can track militants to the gates of hell." But it didn't solve the problem. Al-Zawahiri replaced Osama-bin-Laden. That's it. The problem continues. A military solution is at best a deterrent. It is a necessary condition, but it is not a sufficient condition by itself.
Fight militancy with Quran
2. Use suitable quotes from Quran, in media, to outsmart militants, who use religious terms from Quran, such as 'jehad' to motivate Muslim youth to use violence to get desired results. The militants, and fundamentalist clerics - Hafiz Saeed, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, and Al-Zawahiri - assure the Muslims a seat in heaven in the company of pretty fairies and lot of drinks, if they serve Allah. They claim that Quran supports forcible conversion of Yezidis and other non-believers in Islam to Muslims. Quran doesn't say so. All it says is: convey the truth to non-believers in Islam, and leave it to them - whatever they decide to do. We have to educate Muslim youth with suitable quotes from Quran - which motivate them to follow Godly qualities such as: tolerance, morality and equal status of women.
The militants have been more successful in recruitment and in motivation to carry out barbaric actions, among semi-literate or illiterate Muslim population. Success of Al-Shabab in Somalia, Boko Haram in Nigeria, and ISIS in Iraq and Syria is due to lack of normal education in local population. We have to use social media to counter militants' impact.
Emancipate Muslim women
3. Emancipate Muslim women in - Nigeria, Somalia and other countries in Africa; Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other countries in SE Asia.
* Use media to display, a select life style of Muslim women in West.
* Among Muslims, only Bohra Muslim women can enter the mosques, but the same isn't true for Sunni and Shia Muslim women.
* Militants don't have a family life. They have to learn the value of God's blessings in a stable family life - a home, own children and watching them grow, and devotion of a homely wife. They have to understand the advantages of an educated spouse as housewife for the family.
* Talibans and other militants treat women as a commodity, essential for reproduction so as to sustain the race, but not good enough as an equal partner to the husband to plan the upbringing of the family members. Let's tell the militants,"You are missing great things in life."
Muslim clerics want more Muslim numbers in the world
4. What is hurting Muslim sentiments? Muslim clerics want Islam followers to outnumber followers of other religions. It is an unhealthy competition, akin to corporate-wars in business between Apple and Samsung. Humanity has devised religions, for peace and harmony. Unfortunately, religions are the biggest source of violence. Learning about religions from semi-literate religious teachers in mosques/temples has degenerated human society.
Even Shankracharya, a Hindu religious big-wig, has asked Hindus to take out idols of Shirdi Sai - a Hindu saint - from Hindu temples all over India. The reason: a Sai temple in Maharashtra in India collects huge offerings, more than any other Hindu temple in India.
More numbers of Muslims imply more Haj-Pilgrimage visitors. This is religious tourism and it impacts economy of Saudi Arabia. There is a feeling of insecurity among Muslim clerics. They compare their performance with Christian missionaries. The world community need to have open discussions between Christian and Islamist religious leaders and allay mutual suspicions.
Somebody is funding militants
5. Who is funding the militants? Can we succeed in identifying and plugging the funding sources? It is possible that Sunni kingdoms are supporting Sunni militants, and Shia militants are getting support from Iran. All militant organizations need funds in the beginning. There is a need to plug the sources and exercise sanctions or seizure of bank accounts of such outfits. If there is discontent among Muslim population and they are contributing voluntarily funds for militants, there must be open discussion among people who matter or communities which are affected. It is not an easy task, but worth attempting.
