It's painful when our best friend becomes our worst enemy. We feel betrayed and we try to understand how someone so close to us could drift so far away. Losing a close friend is worse than a break up, because he/she our confidante.
The first thing that we need to do when our best friend becomes our worst enemy is to find out what the problem is and try to talk it out. Without intending to, we may have unwittingly offended them. Once we know what's upset them, we can try to put it right. If there's been a misunderstanding, we can clear it up. Although we need to wait until some resentments cool a little, if we want to save the friendship, we really have to give them some space to get over whatever's upset them, before our friendship returns to normal.
Many friendships end because one person gets the wrong impression over something, or even because another party lies. It may even end for no good reason at all. In other words, this kind of friendship isn't really that strong. If they try to discredit us, we do not have to response and let them thinks that they're over us. We should never give them satisfaction by being more mature than they are.
We could also tell them to stop their behavior if we think that it might make them listen to reason. If they don't want to be friends with us any more that's up to them. There's no need to be childish. If we make it clear that they're upsetting us, they may realize that they're being silly and stop.
There are also times when we are responsible for their behavior. When they trust us too much and then we do something unforgivable to them. That's how friendship usually ends. They won't listen to reasons. They just go on with what they feel. Feeling betrayed for the trust they give. But if they only try to be objective and then try to weigh the reasons for doing such, perhaps the friendship can be saved especially if you treat each other more than friends, even more than sisters.
However, if they won't give us a chance to explain ourselves, then we can do nothing about it except get on with our life. It would be painful of course particularly if you share each other your strengths and weakness (secrets) in life. Yet, we just need to be open-minded that life is not always that becoming.
The fact is that even best friends could become worst enemies.
