Storage Hunters a series which premiered June, 20th 2011 on truTV has now joined the reality frenzy that has swept our televisions nationwide. This show unlike its predecessor the family friendly show Storage wars; (premiered 2010, on A&E) gets physical. Storage Hunters mainly focuses on a married couple bidders, Brandon and Lori Bernier. The couple based in Southern California has been buying and selling merchandise from storage bins for over thirteen years. The "Plot" that makes this Storage program different, is the obnoxious fight scenes that makes you have to wonder is money really the root of all evil.
The show also debuts a host of colorful characters that help with the constant fighting. First up is the Auctioneer Sean Kelly, a Military War Veteran. He is a menacing looking man with a no nonsense facial expression and with his military background he is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Despite his looks and the fact that he is trained in the art of war, Sean Kelly provides a comic view to Storage Hunters by pointing out what famous persons the bidders resemble. From singer Celo Green to former Presidential Candidate Governor Mitt Romney, Sean doesn't miss a beat as he keeps the bidders entertained but also increasing the bids. If the auction business doesn't pan out for Sean he might make a good stand-up comedian, which it has been rumored that he has checked into that idea. You have to respect a guy that can seriously beat you up physically, financially and make you laugh at the same time.
Scott Tassone and wife Chrissy are the second couple on the show. With ten years underneath their belts these moving company experts seem to portray the bizarro Berniers. Their wardrobe seems to always be predominantly black unlike the shows first couple. Even though Brandon isn't a pushover he generally tries to avoid fighting and sticks to bidding, Scott on the other hand doesn't mind going fist to cuffs. The Tassones has also been seen teaming up with other bidders on as the Berniers only rely on each other. Every superhero has to have their nemesis and the Berniers are no different.
Coming to the ring next are the Taylor brothers Dustin & James, these two are the ones that keep Storage hunters on the fight card. They are both very large men that purposely give off a very intimidating presence at the auctions. James the biggest and seemly the oddest is the instigator, while his brother Dustin the shortest but just as big is the muscle. On the season 1 episode 3 "Brawlin on the Bayou" the brothers get into a physical altercation with Brandon after they try to intimidate him from bidding on a locker. It might be perceived that the brothers are the villains in this put your fist where your mouth is show. One fight scene erupts after Brandon discovers someone has flattened the tire on his SUV, when taunted by the brothers he holds his own by knocking down one of the giants. Unfortunately the Taylor brothers are not regulars on the show, mostly due to that Dustin has scored his own reality show Swamp Hunters airing on the same channel. This series follows Dustin and his partner D'Roy into the swamps of Louisiana in search of hidden treasures. Although this show might not bring on the fights, who doesn't like watching people trudge through a swamp.
By all means, violence should never be condoned but you can only hope that Storage Hunters keeps it up. It is what genuinely keeps the show set apart from the others in its unique way. With all the reality TV shows out there today one mimicking the next it is virtually impossible to watch them all, but when one has found a niche especially a niche that is aside from the rest it's worth watching. Storage Hunters has found this niche whether real or fake which is the subject of debate for most reality shows, Storage Hunters is still good entertainment watching people fight over what could be someone else's junk. So if you're a reality TV junkie this is a must see, in the words of Michael Buffer "Let's get ready to Rumble"
