Anil kumble- The greatest bowler India has ever produced, has finally decided to hang his boots on November 2 2008. It has been a treat watching him weave his magic for almost two decades and winning many a matches for India. There would hardly be few who would disagree with me on his greatness. He has been an indefatigable worker for the Indian cricket team and has made India proud.

He started his cricketing career in Aril 1990 and since then never looked back. He has to his credit more than 600 test wickets and more than 300 one day international wickets. He has the unique distinction of being one of the three bowlers to have crossed 600 wickets mark in test cricket. He is also one of the two bowlers in the history of test cricket to have claimed 10 wickets in an innings when he cleaned up the pakistani side at Kotla, Delhi.

Throughout his career he has had to live with criticism of various kinds, but being the fighter he is, he has come out on top every time and has silenced his critics. He has been criticised for not being a big turner of the ball but in spite of that he has troubled the best batsmen in the world for almost two decades.

He may not be very expressive but when he walks out on the field, the pride with which he plays for the India tri color is there for everyone to see. Though he may not be a prodigious spinner of the bowl, his guile and cleverly varied pace have set him apart from the rest. He has been an intrepid fighter and the tenacity of this great man was there for everyone to see when he claimed the prized wicket of Brian Lara(considered to be one of the all time greats of the game) at a time when he was badly injured and was nursing a broken jaw. In spite of the pain he decided to play with his jaw strapped heavily. This just goes to show the immense inner strength that he possesses. Anil Kumble was given the mantle of captaining the India cricket team in 2007. Though captaincy came late in his career he proved to be a good leader in a short span of time. He will always be remembered for the poise and dignity with which he handled the infamous Sydney test.
It has been a glorious career and every cricket fan has relished watching Kumble bowl. The entire cricketing world is going to miss the gritty cricketer. We all salute " Jumbo" who roared in International cricket for almost two decades. He has been a mentor for many aspiring spin bowlers in India and continues to inspire youngsters.
