The Bernina Express is a train journey travelling on an Alpine route which is more than 100 years old and travels from Chur or St Moritz in Switzerland to Poschiavo and Tirano in Italy by crossing the Swiss Alps. On the journey the train also passes along and through the World Heritage Site known as the Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscape. These sites was added to the World Heritage log in 2008. This could perhaps be attributed to the stunning scenery and the spectacular views from inside the carriages, which have panoramic view windows, to make the most out of the amazing natural landscape.
The journey on-board the Bernina Express is around 4 hours which allows you to take in all the amazing scenes. This tourist train travels from 429 metres in Tirano to St Mortiz at 1775 meters and conquers the 2253 metre high Bernina Pass. The line was always intended as a Tourist attraction so tunnels have been avoided wherever possible so people could enjoy the views as much as possible! Onboard the train there is a bar and refreshments are available so you can sit back and make the most of this relaxing journey and I'm sure you'll find plenty of opportunities to take lots of great pictures!
