In considering this, think about the famous quote by German philosopher, Arthur Schopenhauer:

If you don't know what your talents are, ask your friends and family what they think you are particularly good at. It may surprise you.
All of us are born with innate abilities that are specific to each of us. Because of that, the way we individually apply these talents is different than how another would apply the very same ability. That's one of life's many beauties! Everything can be so different and yet in harmony with everything else around us - IF we march to the positive tune that lives inside of us, beckoning to us.
What is your positive tune? If your talent could be symbolized by an arrow, does it hit your life's target? Have you even bothered to release it from the bow?
Try this experiment. Write down 5 of your talents. If you don't know, ask your friends and family. It always feels good to hear others tell us how wonderful we are! Once you have your list of 5 talents that you possess, put on your favorite music or go outside, and sit down with a pen and paper.
1. Look at each talent on your list, one by one, and identify all the things you've accomplished with them. Be sure to review each talent individually.
2. Consider how you feel about this amazing work of art. Think about it. How do you feel? If you've been honest, you'll notice how much more you've achieved than you ever thought! Look at all you've done! Congratulate yourself - you are wonderful and you deserve to honor yourself for all of your impressive accomplishments. Do it - it feels good!
3. Now do the same analysis with something you'd like to accomplish. You have free reign. Write down what lives inside your wildest imagination that, if you knew without a doubt that you'd be successful using your amazing talents, you'd start right away. Remember, the things you do best are unique to you. You create your life and everything around you differently than anyone else. What can you do with your talents that no one else can do? Be honest. And try to avoid being self-deprecating. That serves no other purpose than to prevent you from reaching your dreams, and what fun is that? Let yourself bask in the uniqueness of who you are, the wonder of who you are and the beauty of who you are. You were born to express yourself and we're all looking forward to your new creation!
4. Now that you've written down what you could do with your talents, feed that image. Fill in the blanks. You've got the general idea of what you want to do. Round out your story and complete it to the best of your ability. Don't worry about the things that need to be done in your story that you don't like to do, because there are plenty of people in the world with those specific talents that will show up to help you. Trust that.
5. Give yourself another pat on the back. You have just created Your Story, Your Way. Keep it with you. Read it from time to time. Let it percolate. You just never know what might happen.
We all have the most incredible capacity to give. When we use our talents, we are giving ourselves to the world. We are creating. And the more we create the more creative we become!
